The Wight of a Feather :: #Book #Review

The Weight of a Feather
#BookTour #Review
By:: Judy Croome

Publisher::Aztar
Pages:: 200
Price:: $6.99
ISBN:: B00H217Q5M
Type:: Short Story Anthology

About the Book::
“The promise implicit in an anthology is that it aspires to present something different, unexpected”  Joyce Carol Oates (Introduction to The Oxford Book of American Short Stories)
From the classical form of ‘The Weight of a Feather’, first published by The Huffington Post (2013), to the suggestive allegory of ‘The Leopard and The Lizard’, this collection of short stories by South African author Judy Croome is an ideal mix of the familiar and the startling.
These vibrant slices of life testify to the mysterious and luminous resources of the human spirit. Whether feeling the harrowing emotion in ‘The Last Sacrifice’ or the jauntiness of ‘Jannie Vermaak’s New Bicycle’, the reader will delight in a plethora of stories that cross boundaries to both challenge and entertain with their variety.
My Thoughts::
 If you have ever read a short stories book, you will know that it is a collection of short stories that are normally a really quick read. In the Weight of a Feather and other Stories, it is a quick story book that has forty-five different collective stories that are a very fast read. With the stories being an average of five pages each it is easy to get done reading a few stories, waiting in a doctors office. I normally do not read short stories, since I do like reading novels and seeing the character develop.

Judy has created wonderful stories and I enjoyed all the stories that she has create. The character are developed well and are the stories are easy to read. I hope that her other books are this enjoyable.

Hitchiker

By:: Audra Middleton

Publisher::Burst Books
Pages:: 178
Price:: $3.95
ASIN:: BOOGFW97HE
Type:: Thriller

About the Book::
Supernatural abilities haunt her. Brainiac students taunt her. The FBI “Freak Squad” wants her. Will she abandon her extra sensory talents in favor of freedom, or will she hone them to help catch crooks?
Former army brat, Ainsley Benton, may have finally found her place in this world, and it’s among the freaks. This small town art teacher has the ability to see, hear, and feel what other people are experiencing, and now the FBI’s freak squad wants to use her “human bug” abilities to catch bad guys. Despite her fear of commitment, failure, and responsibility, Ainsley temporarily agrees to join this team of misfits, and ends up risking her life to investigate a conspiracy that may only be one of her schizophrenic coworker’s paranoid delusions.

My Thoughts::
This is a book unlike anything that i have read, Yet i enjoyed reading it. It is about a girl named Ainsley and her world being tossed upside down when she donates blood to a blood drive. The FBI finds out that her blood has special propertys that can help them solve crimes that the FBI are investigating. For a girl that always seemed out of place and never really fit in Ainsley gets the FBI wanting her to join a special group that catches bad guys. The special FBI group is a mix of special people and unique in their own way and some that you would not think would be working with the FBI.
I enjoyed reading about Ainsley and look forward to reading more.

Author Bio:

lowQpicAudra's love of writing began in the third grade, when she was chosen to go to a young author’s conference based on her story, "The Dragon Cookie,” which is about a giant cookie that comes to life. She continued writing, and was sometimes asked to write stories for friends as birthday gifts.

Audra went to college thinking she would go into journalism, but opted to go into publishing instead, and even took an internship at Yale University Press. She married right after college and was unable to find a publishing job where they were living in Seattle. Audra took an office job. After helping put her husband through law school, she went back to school and got her teaching degree. Audra enjoyed teaching, but once her oldest was born, she chose to stay home. At the encouragement of friends she started writing again, the result being her first novel, Watcher, which was released in January of 2013.

Audra and her husband now live in a small town in Eastern Washington with their three boys. They also have a black Lab named Benji who eats shoes, gophers and packages left on her front porch (thanks Fed-Ex). She recently went back to work as a Kindergarten teacher, but she still writes, dabbles in on-line shopping and plays Texas Hold ‘Em with her friends as often she can.

Cross the Ocean : Book Tour : #Book #Review

By:: Holly Bush
#Book #Review

Publisher:: Baby Book

Pages:: 258
Price:: $3.99
ASIN:: B00D381HR6

About the Book::

1871 . . . The very proud Duke of Wexford was about to have his orderly world blown apart. At the age of twenty-four, Blake Sanders had wed a beautiful, dutiful wife and she had borne him three children. But now as mid-life approached, the Duchess had the unheard of temerity to leave him! Too mortified by her behavior to mix in ton company, Blake sought companionship with his best friend and neighbor, Anthony Burroughs, and his wife Elizabeth. But Blake had forgotten the Burrough’s were entertaining a houseguest, Elizabeth’s distant cousin, a spinsterish ‘Amazon from America’.

Gertrude Finch, a champion for women’s rights, had long ago decided most men were useless other than Uncle Fred who’d raised her on his horse ranch near Chicago. While traveling with other Suffragists, Gert lectured women on the perils of passion and the value of independence but thought of neither when Blake kissed her. While opposite in nearly every way, other than an attraction neither could deny, their one night of passion would change her world, and send Gert scurrying her way back home across the ocean.

When Blake discovered his heir had stowed away on Gert’s ship, he set out on his own adventure to America, to bring the boy home and to see Gert once again. Traversing America’s vast wilderness, Blake discovered that Gert had changed his life. Whether riding the rails or meeting common folk, Blake saw a whole new way of living but most of all, he realized something about love. He found he was not immune, and his heart could love, and love deeply.

My Thoughts::

I am not a reader that reads a lot of books about Duke and romance but I do enjoy them. The Cross the Ocean is a quick read about a man name Blake that is a Duke of Wexford that is very arrogant man. Duke is married to a Duchess and they have three children together. For so long the duchess was ignored by her husband Blake. Being tired of her life and being ignored, the duchess leaves her husband, children, and life behind. With Blake not knowing what to do and needing so much  help with his own children. He seeks help from his friend Sir Anthony Burroughs and his wife Elizabeth with his children. With Blake forgetting that his friends are entertaining Gertrude their cousin. Gertrude is from america and Blake is drawn to her very quickly. This is not the case with Gertrude in the beginning. Gertrude is a tell you how it is girl and is not a person to be ignored or to hold back in what she has to say. Learning about Gertrude and Blake is a great story but you will have to find out what happens to the two of them.

I really loved how Gertrude is a woman that speaks her mind and hold pride in herself.

Can't-Wait Willow! :: # Review & #Giveaway

Can't Wait Willow
#Book # Review
By:: Christy Ziglar

Publisher:: Shine Bright Kids
Pages:: 32
Price:: $14.99
ISBN:: 9780824956486
Type:: Children

About the Book::
Willow is so excited that the Over-the-Top Circus has finally come to town! The only problem is that when left to make her own decisions, she can't say 'no' to her favorite things. On the way to the show, she is distracted by enticing treats and fun that she just can't turn down. Willow arrives late and is sad to find that not only has she has run out of time, but money, and she won't be able to enjoy the pink cotton candy she's been dreaming of. Willow is given valuable advice and a second chance and is ultimately taught the lesson that sometimes in life you have to say 'no' to good things to end up with something great! Ages 4-8.

My Thoughts::
With having a only child and a house full of adults Josiah gets the "I Can't Wait" Complex and it is very hard to break. However I am working very hard to break this habit. That is why this book reminds me so much of Josiah, on how impulsive he is. He is always wanting to do stuff right now and does not like to wait. I really like this story because it shows kids that they need to wait if they want to do something that is really important to them. In the story Willow Keep Seeing so many different things, she wanted to do them all and ended up missing out on the very thing that she wanted. For me with a Child with ADHD, this is like the story of are lives always dealing with a impulsive child and never stopping.

Audrey Bunny :: #Review & #Giveaway

Audrey Bunny
By::Angie Smith

Publisher::B & H Publishing Group
Pages:: 32
Price:: $14.99
ISBN:: 978-1433680458
Type:: Childrens

About the Book::
From best-selling women’s author Angie Smith (I Will Carry You, Mended) comes this sweet children’s book about a stuffed animal named Audrey Bunny who fears her imperfections make her unworthy of a little girl’s love. She'll learn the truth soon enough, and young readers will learn that everyone is special and wonderfully made by God.

My Thoughts::
In life everyone is different. Different shapes, sizes, color and different challenges and it is no expectation with toys. When reading Audrey Bunny to Josiah the other night we really enjoyed the book. It is about a little bunny in store, that never gets picked. All because of a mark that is on the chest of the bunny. Audrey the Bunny was so worried that once Caroline found out about the mark on her that Caroline would return her to the store and not want her any more. You find out that the main reason Audrey was picked, was because of her mark. It makes her specials and she is one of a kind. I have now read the book a few times and Josiah really enjoys the book and me reading it to him. I am going to be looking at what other books that Angie writes.

Blown Circuit : Book Tour : Review

Blown Circuit
By::Lars Guignard

10/1-10/31

Publisher::
Pages:: 321
Price:: $4.95
ASIN:: B00AMRGX2A
Type:: Spy/Thriller/Mystery

About the Book::
From the bestselling author of Lethal Circuit comes the long-awaited sequel, BLOWN CIRCUIT.
Michael Chase is back.
He survived China. Barely.
But now he’s got bigger problems.
He has enemies. Deadly enemies.
A pair of coordinates broadcast on an obscure frequency have brought Michael to Istanbul, Turkey where credible chatter has emerged that a terrorist group plans to use a devastating device to hold the world hostage.
Designed by Nikola Tesla, arguably the greatest inventor of the Twentieth Century, the device is experimental, it is capable, and it has been missing for almost sixty years.
If Michael is to prevent a catastrophe, he’ll need to get to the device before the Conspiracy or risk upsetting the global balance of power forever. Of course, finding the Tesla Device is one thing, knowing whom he can trust with it is another matter entirely. If Michael is to survive, he’ll have to do both. If he doesn’t, what started as a bad day is about to become a disaster

My Thoughts::

CIA Operative Micheal is in search for a device called the Tesla, that can be used for great harm if it falling in to the one of the many different government agency from all over the world that is in search of for it as well. Who can he trust when he is in Istanbul? With so many different enemies he has his work cut out for himself. This is book number two in the series that is full of adventure and mystery. Even with this book being the second in the series, you get information about the first book in this one as well. So you are not lost when reading the story. I enjoyed the book a lot, with it being filled with action and mystery.
